Winter Holiday Schedule 2016

The Arte Capoeira Center will be closed during the Holidays. Last capoeira class of 2017 takes place Wednesday December 21st, 2016.

Capoeira classes will resume to regular schedule on Wednesday January 4th 2017.

Thanksgiving 2016: schedule changes

Due to the Thanksgiving Holiday capoeira classes are cancelled on:

  • Wednesday November 23th, 2016
  • Saturday November 26th, 2016

Regular schedule will resume Monday November 29th, 2016.

Saturday 10/15/2016 Class Canceled

On Saturday October 15, 2016, due to Boa Voz workshop all adult and kids classes are canceled.

All ABADA Capoeira students are welcome to join the workshop of this master musician, renowned as one of the best capoeira voices of our times.

Don’t miss the Open House on Saturday Oct. 8th 2016

On Saturday October 8th, 2016 the Arte Capoeira Center will hold its annual Open House, opening the doors to all New Yorkers who want to experience this unique Brazilian martial art.

 

For all the fitness fiends that will be up to the challenge, Instrutor Mucuiu will introduce the participants to the basics of capoeira, its origins and music. The presentation will include also the impressive maculele and the exuberant samba de roda, which will give a taste of the rich folkloric traditions surrounding capoeira.

 

The kids class will be from 12 to 1 pm and it’s open to kids 4 to 10 years old.

The adult class will be from 12 to 2 pm.

 

Capoeira is an ancient Brazilian martial art, invented by the African slaves in the XVI century. It combines power, speed, and leverage for a variety of kicks and spins, which are performed following the music of traditional percussion instruments and songs.

 

Today capoeira still epitomizes the spirit of Brazil with its dexterity, trickery, poetry and music.
