    About

    The capoeira beginners class focuses on basic techniques and skills (defense, attack and in-betweens). It is aimed at increasing coordination, flexibility and strength.
    The class is conducted at a lower pace to allow the participants to learn and refine the fundamental capoeira movements.
    Students practice includes also capoeira music and instruments.

      Instrutor Mucuiù is the Founder and Executive Director of the Arte Capoeira Center. He has been teaching capoeira in the New York City area for over 15 years.

      Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Instrutor Mucuiù has always been fond of sport and healthy lifestyle. Besides capoeira, he has been training judo, swimming and Brazilian Ju-jitsu. He has a black belt in judo and has competed in many tournaments.

      His first contact with Capoeira was in 1985 with Mestre Caio in Rio de Janeiro. In 1989, he began studying with Mestre Camisa and has been training with him ever since.

      In the summer of 1990, Mucuiù moved to the U.S but he travels frequently to Brazil to attend capoeira workshops and competitions. At the ABADÁ Capoeira Brazilian Games in 2002, he won the prize for “Best Purple Cord”.

      In September 2003, Instrutor Mucuiù opened “Arte Capoeira Center”, NYC’s first studio specialized in capoeira regional and Brazilian performing arts. He says “I love teaching capoeira, it is a sport and a cultural activity. It is a unique combination that enriches people’s lives and creates a sense of community, that is often lacking in such a big city as NYC”. When he is not travelling to Brazil to train, he teaches everyday at the Arte Capoeira Center. He is often teaching to NYC youth through school events  and no-profit organizations.

      The Arte Capoeira Center and Mucuiù have been featured in local and international publications, as well as several TV programs.

    Mixed level class, open to existing students and visitors. The focus of this class is to improve capoeira basics thanks to a more challenging training. It introduces fast-paced rhythms and acrobatics.
    Beginners can attend this class once they have learned the basic movements of defense/attack and in-betweens. The class is conducted according to the level of the students attending.

    This class is open only to existing ABADÁ-Capoeira students. Students attending this class should have strong foundation of the basic movements.

    The aim of this class is to develop more advanced movements and improve the capoeira game.
    This class is for cord amarelo-laranja and up only.

    Capoeira is an excellent activity for kids. Not only it is a complete sport that develops and strengthen the whole body an but it also helps kids to develop a wide variety of skills including: flexibility, balance and focus.

    Capoeira is also a precious developmental tool as it engages its players physically, socially and culturally. Its unique combination of dance, martial arts and music is ideal to help kids grow with confidence, discipline and a positive attitude to life.

    Dexterity, Flexibility

    The improvised competitive play of two helps children to think on their feet. Acrobatic moves and “cool” martial arts kicks motivate them work hard to achieve mastery of their movements. All activities are closely supervised by trained and qualified instructors.

    Play and Cooperative Competition

    The combination of competitive and concurring play helps children to express themselves artistically within a social group. The collective elements are further reinforced by the music making as the young capoeiristas are introduced to several percussion instruments and singing.

    Our capoeira kids classes are conducted in a playful yet challenging manner in order to promote both cooperation and competitiveness in a positive way.

    The kids classes at the Arte Capoeira Center are for 4 to 13 year-olds.

    Last but not least Capoeira Kids is a lot of fun!
