Our capoeira class is open to students and capoeiristas of all levels. After a capoeira-based warm-up the students are divided in groups to continue training with drills and sequences according to their skill level.
For BEGINNERS, training focuses on basic capoeira techniques and skills (defense, attack and in-betweens) and it is aimed at increasing coordination, flexibility and strength. Absolute beginners are welcome to join this class any time. FIRST CLASS IS FREE, we also offer a $30 WEEKLY PASS for the first week.
More advanced capoeira students can expect to train on refining their combinations and increasing endurance.
Instrutor Mucuiù is the Founder and Executive Director of the Arte Capoeira Center. He has been teaching capoeira in the New York City area for over 15 years.
Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Instrutor Mucuiù has always been fond of sport and healthy lifestyle. Besides capoeira, he has been training judo, swimming and Brazilian Ju-jitsu. He has a black belt in judo and has competed in many tournaments.
His first contact with Capoeira was in 1985 with Mestre Caio in Rio de Janeiro. In 1989, he began studying with Mestre Camisa and has been training with him ever since.
In the summer of 1990, Mucuiù moved to the U.S but he travels frequently to Brazil to attend capoeira workshops and competitions. At the ABADÁ Capoeira Brazilian Games in 2002, he won the prize for “Best Purple Cord”.
In September 2003, Instrutor Mucuiù opened “Arte Capoeira Center”, NYC’s first studio specialized in capoeira regional and Brazilian performing arts. He says “I love teaching capoeira, it is a sport and a cultural activity. It is a unique combination that enriches people’s lives and creates a sense of community, that is often lacking in such a big city as NYC”. When he is not travelling to Brazil to train, he teaches everyday at the Arte Capoeira Center. He is often teaching to NYC youth through school events and no-profit organizations.
The Arte Capoeira Center and Mucuiù have been featured in local and international publications, as well as several TV programs.
