The Batizado, or baptism, is a spectacular annual ceremony celebrating the art of capoeira and introducing new students to the capoeira community. It includes performances full of music, dance, beauty and emotion. The central parts of the ceremony are the games of induction that Mestres and senior students from Brazil play with the new students, and the change of belts for existing students. It closes with a spectacular Roda de Mestres, in which the masters display the skills and spirit of this ancient art. This celebration is also complimented by several performances of Afro-Brazilian art forms like maculelê, batucada and samba de roda.
